Windows\LDAP group creation - Bulk method

Hi All,

Does anyone have a way to bulk created Serv MFT Windows\LDAP Groups other than the Serv-u GUI?

I have some 280 groups that I need to create and would like to have a method to create these rather than the one by one via the GUI.

Interested in ideas.

Powershell to the rescue?

Thanks

Serv-U 15.1.4 RC1 Is Now Available

We would like to announce the availability of 15.1.4 Release Candidate 1 to show some of the work we've been developing as of late within Serv-U. This is slated as a Service Release, but we decided to provide a release candidate prior to GA and would love to hear your feedback as we head into GA. Release Candidates are eligible as long as you are in active maintenance. If you would like to take RC1 for a spin simply pull down the bits from within your customer portal.

In short, the LDAP configuration dialog for users has been updated to auto-populate Active Directory servers & simplify LDAP configuration. Of course, we also put in some bug fixes and security updates.

By the way, there's now a new filter in your customer portal that will filter for RC bits making it easier to find them.

Some of the particulars with Improving LDAP configuration are;

    • Auto-detect Active Directory systems
    • Updated advanced configuration options
    • Allows for the testing of user logins from the wizard
    • Now provides tool-tips to help guide you through fields
    • Improved the look & feel

Give it a spin! We encourage your feedback as it relates to this enhancement

Thanks everyone!

File Management Path Statement & Use

Good day,

Quick question about the File Management functionality.

Under File Management (Located in the Directories section), I want to create a "deletion" rule, that deletes files under a number of sub-directories after xx days. Can I use the path statement "/ftp/foo/bar/*"? And If I use this path statement, will this delete only the files with in each sub-directory under ~/bar? Or will this delete all the sub-directories with ~/bar?

Serv-U Data Transfer Mode for Web Client?

$

I might just be confused on how data transfer on the Serv-U web client works, but what is the data transfer mode when using the web client?  We exclusively used the SFTP protocol for transfers that come from filezilla, winscp, etc. and I know that the SFTP transfer mode is always binary.  Does that mean the web client also transfers data in binary or is it ASCII?  Or maybe there is another behavior/transfer mode I am unaware of on the web client?

Any help would be appreciated!

Thanks,

Charles Daniel

LDAP issue

I have tried to follow the documentation online/forum and in the admin guide but have hit a roadblock on our setup.

I also got a bounce back from 'SolarWindsEvalSupport@solarwinds.com', which doesn't help matters.

I can’t seem to get the LDAP sync working. Here is a screenshot of the configuration (forgive me for stripping useful information out for privacy).

1Untitled.png

I think its struggling in particular with the login ID/user mapping.

I used some LDAP software to check whats happening, I also got no results back.

2Untitled.png

This is the search performed without the mapping;

3Untitled.png

This is also a selection of the results when selecting one level only (which I don’t ideally want to do, I would like sub tree as well);

Can someone assist me please?

Many thanks in advance!

External Serv-U log viewer?

$

Does anyone know of a good text editor/viewer that can be used to review Serv-U logs and syntax highlight things for easier reading?  Our FTP server generates some pretty large logs and I'd like to review them with some basic highlighting applied for lines like "User "xxxxxxxxx" logged in" to denote the beginning of a session.  I know that editors like Notepad++ have some basic ability to create user defined syntax highlighting but this is mainly for scripts and keywords.  I'd like to highlight an entire line for session starts for easier log reading.

Thanks for any info anyone might have!

Scheduled Upload to Sharing folder

We are using the MFT version and currently we have it setup as a blind FTP. Meaning you can upload a file but can' see it. Then an admin can do whatever with that file. We also have the web client setup where a user on our domain can login. My question is, would it be possible to setup a scheduled file upload and send an email to the vendor/outside source giving them the url to download the file? We want to do this without logging into the client. I have Voyager setup but i apparently am missing something. If I connect to my ftp it give me blind access, which doesn't do any good. How does one go about setting up something like this if it is possible?

Feature Request!

Any way that the File Management rules on a Serv-U Windows installation can be changed to trigger off of file modify date rather than creation date?  Or, at least put an option in the rule creation dialog to allow you to select between creation date and modify date for rule application.  Triggering off of the creation date seriously hampers the logical analysis of whether or not a file is still actively in use by users.  If users are collaborating and changing files in a folder, the creation date does NOT reflect the true relevance of data.

Thanks!

Cisco Devices No Longer Backup to ServuFTP 15.1.4

$

I upgraded from ServuFTP 15.1.3 to 15.1.4.  I was wondering if anyone else has run into the issue described below with ServuFTP 15.1.4.  I opened a Case 1046023 with support and they had me set-up a test server running 15.1.3 and everything worked with that version.  I was told that Development would likely not fix the issue because it would require engaging Cisco and I would have move back to 15.1.3.

I have Cisco devices (Nexus 7000, Cisco WLC 5508 and Cisco ACS 1121 appliance) that do scheduled backups every night to ServuFTP.  This all worked perfectly with 15.1.3 but stopped working when I updated to 15.1.4.  I used the respective appliance/switch GUI for enabling automatic backups and pointed them to the ServuFTP server.  If I try a manual FTP connection from the Nexus switch, this works.  But automated backups stopped working.

When I look in the FTP logs, I see the following repeated over and over again about "need password", though I am 100% certain the password is correct.

[21] Sat 17Sep16 06:00:00 - (028589) 331 User name okay, need password.

Does Serv-U Encrypt the Files?

$

I am looking for a solution to help our clients with File Transfers and I am curious if Serv-U actually encrypts the specific files before they are transferred?  Specifically I am looking for encryption at rest, not in-transfer.  I need to know that once my client downloads the file that they will then need to decrypt the file.
