We have 2 load balanced ftp file servers that both connect to the user database located on a clustered sql database server. We map users to groups for folder access, our groups have the specific folder permission already setup. My problem is when we add more and more groups to the user, the return time on login (as servu queries the database for access) gets slower and slower. I have also noticed that the more users\groups in the servu user database, the slower it is to list\edit users. Is anyone else having this difficulty?
ServU and SQL user database slow return times for login and editing users.
Serv u creating user folders
I was wondering if anyone can help me out with the following problem
I am using Windows Groups and set up every users home drive to be the following
d:\%USER%
With this when the user logs on it creates a folder called the users username, this work great. My problem is that it doesn't write any NTFS permissions to the new folder so that user and only that user has access to it, write to it etc.
So my question is can Serv u create folders with permissions for the user which created it, just like when you create a home drive in AD
File Request Error: Specified File or Directory Does not exist
I had setup a demo of Serv-U MFT and it worked perfectly. We purchased it and i migrated the vm into our vcenter which gave me a different ip. After licensing the product, i changed the listener to the new ip address and changed dns. I setup a file request and after clicking on the link in the email i get the following error. Error: Specified File or Directory does not exist. This occurs internally and externally. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Converting private IP address... connection never completes.
I am using FTP Voyager 15 to connect to my Serve-U 6 account. I control the server and have just installed it on a Windows Server 2008 R2 computer. I previously used it on Windows Server 2003 for ten years, and I am very familiar with the interface and all.
I must have done something wrong with this new installation or account creation because I cannot connect to any account. Here is the complete log from the session:

After that, nothing happens: no listing is displayed, the cursor remains forever an hourglass, and the only thing I can do is close FTP Voyager.
Serve-U is set to use Port 23 (Port 21 is otherwise occupied). FTP Voyager is set to use Passive mode. The router behind which the server is sitting is set to forward the usual ports for passive connections, and of course port 23.
I'd appreciate a suggestion. Thanks!

What does this error mean? I have been seeing this for SFTP connections.
serv-u strange speed problem with 192.0.0.0 network
It's really very strange.
I use IP address 192.0.0.x in intranet. The speed both read and write are very slow. Write speed just about 5 MB/s while read speed about 10 MB/s in ervery session. If I use other network IP like 10.1.1.100, write speed can arrive more than 40 MB/s. As I know 192.0.0.x is internet IP address. Is there any rule limit internet speed automatic? Or, is it a bug?
I test both version 6.4 and 15. All use fresh configure (Just add domain and user)
Serv-U and Google Chrome
I just renewed my SSL Cert which is now a SHA2 certificate. Chrome says the connection is secure and displayes the correct Cert info, however it is also complaining that my connection is using TLS1.0 and I am not sure if this has to do with Serv-U, and update to Chrome, or my new cert. Can Serv-U be configured to use TLS 1.2?
Export of Database Users and Columns
I recently exported all the user accounts, my question is about a particular column on the spreadsheet. DisabledEventFired. Does this column let the admin know if an account has been disabled? On my sheet, I see a number of accounts with a number 1 in that column, some are blank. Basically just trying to find out which accounts I can purge from the system.
Are there any event variables?
Looking for a way to delete or copy a files once it has been Ftp'd .
Bug in Serv-U 15.1.2? - Expired Password Change not working
Good Morning,
Having upgraded 2 Serv-U servers at the weekend to 15.1.2.189, users can no longer change their password when it expires. A server running 15.0.1 is still fine.
Scenario -
1. A user has the checkbox "user must change password at next logon" ticked, making their password expire immediately.
2. User attempts to login
3. Enters their current and new passwords
4. The following error is shown..
A closer inspection using Firebug shows a 401 Unauthorized error..
Is anyone else experiencing this?
Thanks in advance,
Chris

Serv-U MFT High Availability in Windows.
I am having difficulties finding detailed information on setting up Serv-U in a High Availability fashion. Does anyone have any documention besides the serv-u_distributed_architecture.pdf document? This document only states "You must install Serv-U on each application server and point to the same shared resources." I'm not sure what resources we are talking about.
Does anyone have any information or input on this?
Thanks,
Brian
FTP Voyager 16.2 move to another server-scheduled tasks not displaying
We migrated from a physical to a virtual box with all new fresh installs of software as follows: win2003 sp2... sql2000... ftpv 16.2.0.238. I followed the instructions from kb#1189. I located all files except for the file called ftpvoyagerid.txt. The profile sites are fine but my scheduled tasks are not being display via the scheduler. I copied the file 'ftp voyager scheduler.sch' and and 'ftp voyager scheduler.sch.backup' into the directory called c:\program files\rhinosoft\ftp voyager. I have restarted the ftp voyager scheduler service several times. I have not done a reboot yet. I'm at a loss why my tasks are not being displayed. Any advice is greatly appreciated... b

Serv-U Memory Leak Bug - Serv-U MFT Version 15.1.2.189.
Last night we experienced a serious memory leak in Serv-U.exe which crashed the application.
Serv-U MFT Version 15.1.1.108 has been operating without a memory leak for many months. The server on the new version had been running for less than 2 weeks and memory spiked from a usual 200MB to around 2500MB and crashed all connections.
I have raised with Solarwinds support - peter.kruty Is anyone else having this problem?
Setup Serv-U FTP/SFTP to automatically download/Upload on Scheduled Tasks
ISSUE: All files are synced to the cloud, and depending upon EULA may be under ownership of the cloud provider.
PURPOSE: Turning File and Folder sync from a Cloud solution to an On-Premise solution.
Extra Credit Security Steps: Once setup configure logging and utilize LEM for Access logging.
Phases
- Setup Site Profile in FTP Voyager
- Create Local and remote sync folder
- Obtain directories
- Publish to Scheduler
- Create Task to download from Server to Client
- Create Task to Upload changes from Client to Server
- Test the 2 Tasks.
Setup Site Profile in FTP Voyager.
Add the FTP/SFTP Site.
- Start> Programs> FTP Voyager> FTP Voyager
- If this is the first loading time, the wizard will start.
- Otherwise under the Browser tab at the top, select New Site Wizard
- Enter in the IP or Hostname, connection type and Port
- Enter in Username and password that will be used for scheduled tasks.
- Select Open a Local and Remote Window.
- Select the local Serv-U Sync Directory (you can create it now and then select the folder to proceed; example is Serv-U_SyncLocal)

- Keep the selection, Connect to this site now, and select Finish.
- The Left window will show the Local share, and the right Window will be the FTP/SFTP Server.
- On the FTP/SFTP Server create a new folder. (example will be Serv-U_SyncRemote)
- Double click to go into the folder
- At the top you can select the address bar for the directory
Publish the Site to Task Scheduler
- If FTP Voyager is not already running; go into Start> Programs> FTP Voyager> FTP Voyager
- In Serv-U Voyager Application; at the top under Browser select Site Profiles
- Right Click on the FTP/SFTP Server you wish to use to scheduler, select Publish to Scheduler.
Setup Automated tasks to Upload/download files on a scheduled basis (daily)
Download from Remote Share to Local Folder
- Double click the Voyager Icon (green circle)
- At the bottom select Synchronize Wizard
- Select Synchronize to Local Folder, select Next.
- Select
- Local Directory
- Remote Server (if not showing, go back to publish the site to Task Scheduler)
- Remote Folder (copy the address you see under Add FTP Site, step 10. Directory should start with /)
- Select the following Settings
- Select the Timeframe. I set mine to daily at 8am for every 1 day
- Enter Task Name "Download Sync From Serv-U Server to Local Share"
- Description: "Automatically download files from the Serv-U Server daily to obtain new files from the share. Existing files that are newer will not be updated."
- Select Next, and Finish to create.
Upload daily file changes from Remote folder to Serv-U Sync Directory
- Double click the Voyager Icon (green circle)
- At the bottom select Synchronize Wizard
- Select Synchronize to Remote Folder, select Next.
- Select
- Local Directory
- Remote Server (if not showing, go back to publish the site to Task Scheduler)
- Remote Folder (copy the address you see under Add FTP Site, step 10. Directory should start with /)
- Select the following Settings
- Select the Timeframe. I set mine to daily at 5 pm for every 1 day
- Enter Task Name "Upload changes to Serv-U Sync"
- Description: "This task will upload all files to the Serv-U_Sync folder. Any newer updates will be replaced. Files REMOVED FROM LOCAL WILL DELETE SHARE."
- Select Next, and Finish to create.
Test to Confirm that the Tasks Worked.
- Go into the Local Sync Directory.
- Create 2 new Text files. Open up the text files and insert random data.
- Double click the Voyager Icon (green circle)
- Select Upload changes to Serv-U Sync, select Execute.
- Once Completed, go into FTP Voyager and view the Serv-U Server Remote Share. Make sure that the 2 files are now showing on the Server.
- Delete the 2 files on the local System.
- Back in Serv-U Task Scheduler Select Download Sync From Serv-U Server to Local Share, select Execute.
- Once Completed, the previously deleted files should now be back as the Remote Serv-U Server has now placed them back into the local system
- To confirm that any deleted file is removed, delete one of the local files.
- Select Upload changes to Serv-U Sync, select Execute.
- Go back into Serv-U Voyager and look at the Remote Sync folder. The file deleted locally should now be gone remotely.
Serv-U How to block file share logins from outside of internal network
I am running version 15.1.2.189 and everything is setup. I have the Gateway in a DMZ and it's talking back to my Serv-U server on the local LAN.
For security reasons (don't want people brute forcing against the login page) I don't want the allow access to the Serv-U file sharing login page outside of my internal LAN. However, I of course want to make sure that access to file share links still work outside of my LAN.
(My users will always be accessing their share links from within my LAN.)
I have tested a few options under the IP Access tab, but it seems if I limit access to only my internal LAN ip range, that it also breaks access to the file share links from outside of my network.
Thanks for the help,
SB
