To receive updates on the Serv-U roadmap, JOIN thwack and BOOKMARK this page

The Serv-U product team is working hard to build several new and exciting features. Some of these changes include:

  • Improvements in LDAP support & usability
  • Enhanced security with support for stronger cryptography
  • Adoption of SolarWinds licensing framework
  • Scheduler Enhancement and Capabilities

PLEASE NOTE:  We are working on these items based on this priority order, but this is NOT a commitment that all of these enhancements will make the next release.  We are working on a number of other smaller features in parallel. If you have comments or questions on any of these items (e.g. how would it work?) or would like to be included in a preview demo, please let us know!

Home directory upper/lower case

Hello,

i configured the ldap authentication and it's working fine.

for home directory i create a personal folder for each user depending of the login with %USER% variable  (/data/ICS/users/%USER%)

but as authentication works with lower and upper case for the login it creates 2 differents home folder for the same user.

is it possible to force case for home directory? or is there an other variable than %USER% that i can use who always use the same case?

Thanks

serv-u strange speed problem with 192.0.0.0 network

It's really very strange.

I use IP address 192.0.0.x  in intranet.  The speed both read and write are very slow.   Write speed just about 5 MB/s while read speed about 10 MB/s in ervery session.  If I use other network IP like 10.1.1.100,  write speed can arrive more than 40 MB/s.    As I know 192.0.0.x is internet IP address. Is there  any rule limit internet speed automatic?  Or, is it a bug?

I  test both version 6.4 and 15.    All use fresh configure (Just add domain and user)

Serv-U and Google Chrome

I just renewed my SSL Cert which is now a SHA2 certificate.  Chrome says the connection is secure and displayes the correct Cert info, however it is also complaining that my connection is using TLS1.0 and I am not sure if this has to do with Serv-U, and update to Chrome, or my new cert. Can Serv-U be configured to use TLS 1.2?

Serv-U settings / limits.

My group is in the process of taking over the MFTP serv-u implementation and as we transition, there are a number of findings our Audit found.  A couple of them have to do with Password security.  I don't see any settings or limits to set to control Account lockout threshold, for example if a user types in the password wrong 4 times, the account get's locked.

Can I use FTP Voyager "Proxy Settings" to “FTP-OUT” a batch process?

I have MFT and Gateway. Since connection from external is already established via port 1180, I installed FTP voyager on Serv-U machine and thinking if I can use the proxy settings on the advanced options of site profile to 'ftp out' a batch process thru FTP scheduler.

As much as possible I don't want to open a port like on the firewall. Is this possible?

Export of Database Users and Columns

I recently exported all the user accounts, my question is about a particular column on the spreadsheet.  DisabledEventFired.  Does this column let the admin know if an account has been disabled?  On my sheet, I see a number of accounts with a number 1 in that column, some are blank.  Basically just trying to find out which accounts I can purge from the system.

Are there any event variables?

I would like to automate the process of moving or deleting a file on the remote side once it is downloaded. Any example(s)?

I am using FTP Voyager 15 to connect to my Serve-U 6 account. I control the server and have just installed it on a Windows Server 2008 R2 computer. I previously used it on Windows Server 2003 for ten years, and I am very familiar with the interface and all.

I must have done something wrong with this new installation or account creation because I cannot connect to any account. Here is the complete log from the session:

COMMAND:>MLSD

After that, nothing happens: no listing is displayed, the cursor remains forever an hourglass, and the only thing I can do is close FTP Voyager.

Serve-U is set to use Port 23 (Port 21 is otherwise occupied). FTP Voyager is set to use Passive mode. The router behind which the server is sitting is set to forward the usual ports for passive connections, and of course port 23.

I'd appreciate a suggestion. Thanks!

Ports for Passive mode

I read in the docs that ports 50000-50009 are used and must be opened in the router for passive mode. But when I do that, connection fails, and in the log I see the line:

Opening passive mode data connection to 132.236.21.62, port 49247.

If I open 49000-50009, everything works, but I don't want to open more ports than necessary. Which ones are required? For the connection itself I use 23 (21 is not available).

Thanks for any tips!

The Release Candidate (RC) for Serv-U 15.1.2 is now ready! RC is the last step before general availability, and it is a chance for existing customers to get the newest functionality before it is available to everyone else. You can download it from the LATEST DOWNLOADS FOR YOUR PRODUCTS section of the customer portal. Change filter to "Release Candidate" and click on download button next to Serv-U RC version.

This release is heavily focused on security and should not only bring some great security improvements, many bug fixes, but also sets Serv-U for further security enhancements coming in future releases.

Some of the improvements are:

  • Introduced TLS 1.1 and 1.2
  • Domain enablement icon indication
  • Support for HTTPS upload on latest versions of Firefox
  • Ability to make Web Client Pro default Web Client
  • Mobile Web Client Redesign
  • SMTP configuration test button
  • Numerous security and performance enhancements

RC builds are made available to existing customers prior to the formal release. These are used to get customer feedback in production environments, and are fully supported.

You can download the RC from the LATEST DOWNLOADS FOR YOUR PRODUCTS section of the customer portal. Change filter to "Release Candidate" and click on download button next to Serv-U RC version.

FTP Voyager scheduler

I'm having a bit of a problem with ftp voyager scheduler.  It won't run when clicked. I get the hourglass for a second or two (the windows7 equivalent) and then nothing.  It isn't running when I check the task manager.  I installed it 2 days ago it worked fine, but just stopped working midday for no "apparent reason'.  I've not installed or uninstalled anything, nor has there been any changes to my laptop (to my knowledge).  Any help would be greatly appreciated.

FTP Voyager scheduler hangs when FTP server is empty.

We have a scheduled FTP task that connects to an FTP server every 10 minutes and checks for downloads. If there are files located on the FTP server, the task exits after it has moved down the files to the local system. If there are not any files on the remote FTP server, the task will run indefinitely, causing files to stack up on the remote FTP server.

Would anyone have any suggestions of settings to look at that may cause this task to hang?

File Names

I'm transferring files and find some are not transferring. Below is one of the files

E:\Documents and Settings\Chris\My Documents\My Douments From Old Computer\Kelly Career Network_files\activity;src=670786;type=kesemail;cat=jobse401;ord=1;num=1.gif

I assume the problem is with the symbols = and ; and its probably too long.

Is there a setting in serv-u to allow these files or at least automatically reformat them so they are accepted.

unban ip address

I set a limit to block IP addresses if there entered incorrect 4 times in 30 seconds. I set it to 120 minutes and ended up blocking myself. I've set it back to 5 minutes but my ip is still being blocked for another 90 minutes. How do I unblock myself or for that matter any user who blocks themselves in the future?

Newbie Setting up Serv-U MFT & Gateway - Getting Confused

$

Hi,

I'm new to this software, or should I say I've inhereted a very old version (6.4) and have just purchased the new MFT & Gateway solution to replace it.

I'm ok with all the firewall stuff and getting traffic in/out via the Gateway but the Serv-U Back-End Server Setup is really confusing me

It's the setting up of the "Domain" inside the Serv-U Interface, I just don't understand what it's trying to do .

Do I need multiple domains? Do I need FTP & File Sharing? Or one or the other? The Admin user guide doesn't really explain what these choices mean!

What do I call them these "Domains"? Etc. Etc.

Basically this is what I want to do and I would be very grateful if someone could point me in the right direction:-

1) Allow 3rd Parties (Customers & Suppliers) to put and get files from our Serv-U server via the Serv-U Gateway based upon credentials we setup.

2) Allow our company's internal Domain users to put and get files from the Serv-U file server structure based upon Active Directory Group or User Membership.

3) Keep everything safe and seperated

Would I setup a Domain for each 3rd Party?

Any Help appreciated,

Thanks,

Craig

checking checksum of files of remote

Does serv-u record the checksum when files are uploaded? I am looking for a way to compare the checksum of the file on the local machine to that of the ftp server to be sure they match.
