Need help with upload timeout issue

$

I am using ServU File Sharing portal with th e"Request Files From Guest User" feature. I have set the max file upload for this user to be 100GB and ther eis more than that free space on this account's home directory. I successfully send the file request out to my test email account, and try to upload an 8GB file.  The process fails within 1 minute with the error "The server failed to respond to a NOOP command (HTTP code: 401). Your session may have timed out. Please try logging in again."

The Idle limit is set to 10 minutes, but this limit is not reached.

And I expect customers to have to upload 50-60 GB files; I can't seem to override this any larger than 10 minutes, which may pose another problem.

Does anyone know how I can employ the Guest File Request and not have a customer experience of "timeout" and "fail" on uploads?

Thanks in advance,

Robert

VNQM CDR Question

I've run into some trouble with CDR reporting in my Cisco CallManager environment. We have a 3rd party CDR billing server and I've configured my CUCM Publishers (yes, plural) in VNQM to download CDRs from the Billing FTP server. I've confirmed the credentials are correct. My polling interval is set for 10 minutes as we process a lot of calls. I think I've discovered my issue and I fear there's no fix for it.

According to the linked article, Missing call records (CDR files) in VNQM when working with an FTP - SolarWinds Worldwide, LLC. Help and Support

According to Issue II below, the cluster name must be the default, standalonecluster. Since we are in a multi-cluster environment aka an SME CallManager architecture we update the cluster ID of each Cluster for call accounting purposes. Can the Solarwinds CCMmonitoring table be updated for a different cluster name or mulitple cluster names? Unfortunely, setting the Cluster ID back to the default is not an option and it's shame we couldn't use this feature if there's no other option.

Issue II.

1. Check files in FTP, note the file name specifically the cluster name IE: cdr_standalonecluster_01...

2. Check the CCMmonitoring table in the Solarwinds Database and verify the ClusterName column matches the     standalonecluster section of the filename listed above.

3. If they do not match, remove the Call Manager from VNQM and re-add it to see if it will re-sync.

4. Recheck the CCMmonitoring table if it still shows bad data then continue if not it should be resolved.

5.  If not, perform an SNMPwalk and verify that what is being returned for the OID 1.3.6.1.4.1.9.9.156.1.1.2.1.8     it should match the standalonecluster from the file name, if it does not match the customer needs to work with     Cisco to clear the stale data or fix the mismatch.

Serv-U MFT Web Client Pro and Java version

I just upgraded Serv-U FTP to Server-I MFT version 15.1.6 and not be able to get the Web Client Pro working.

I enable Web Client Pro for the user.  When the user logs in, they get the error JRE could not be detected on this computer.

I opened a ticket with Solarwinds tech support for a week now and didn't get much help but suggesting to try different Java versions.

I have tried Java version 6, 7 and 8 on Windows 7 machine but still get the same error.

If you know how to make Web Client Pro to work with certain Java version or settings on both Serv-U MFT and Windows 7, please let me know.

I am not impressed with Solarwinds Tech Support at this time.

Thanks,

Hien Doan

Serv U MFT: SFTP - File Sync Issue

I am evaluating Serv U MFT SFTP for one of my new customer. Server is on Windows 10 Pro and client WebDrive is on Windows 7 Pro. Both computers are not connected to Internet. These are lab testing computers. Customer's requirement is SECURE connection to folders over LAN and INTERNET however there is one specific folder that customer does not want their employees to DELETE any file from. Employees can create/read/modify files but must not able to delete any file or subfolder.

For testing I created 2 users on MFT server - one with DELETE permission and second without. I am using WebDrive (https://southrivertech.com/products/webdrive/) as SFTP client. WebDrive is caching the file from the folder - allow to make changes and trying to save modified file. However, Serv U SFTP does not let to save file to user who has no DELETE permission. If I provide DELETE permission to same user, file can be saved without any issue. If I remove DELETE permission from same user AGAIN, file cannot be saved. Serv U log shows error - ACCESS DENIED : NO PROPER PERMISSION.

How can I resolve this issue? Please help, Monday morning I have to demonstrate in front of the group before they sign up the contract.

Thank you...

Serv-u loads only one processor core during high-load operations

Our team noticed that Serv-u started to work very slow, did not allow pretty much every new connection/login. It started to happen after import of ~500 users where some of them had missing Home Directories (that was the core issue eventually). It happened for a few days in a row. Looks like Serv-u initialized some user validations which took all available for it CPU. Serv-u did not provide any explanation what is going on.

Anyway when we were digging into the issue we noticed that on the multi (6) core server Serv-u consumes only one core but completely (at glance 80+%).

Questions:

1 how to make sure that Serv-u can use all available server resources in particular all processor cores?

2 am I right about user Home Driectopry validation in the background? if so could the case with 500+ users with wrong directories trigger such a slowness?

3 according to the import description do you think it is expected behavior for Serv-u to halt the ftp server behind the scene without reason explanation? maybe I need to look at specific place in the app/log/system to understand what is going on?

MFT Web Client Date format

Hi All,

I have my Windows server set to AUS region and Date\Time format (dd/MM/YYYY)

So my MFT root folder shows files and folders in the correct format for my region/Users

However the Web client shows US date format (MM/dd/YYY)

Any Ideas on if this can be modified? I have logged this with the support team as well

Thanks

FTP Browser Handling

Currently have ServU FTP installed (v15). When we browser to the domain using Chrome, it converts the domain to ftp:// instead of http:// which prevents the web GUI from working. IE and FF gets to the login screen but does not actually log the person in. The later, I can see in the logs that the login was connected but quickly closed (closed session).  Instead I had to create a virtual host with a different name than ftp, and now it seems to work. The problem is I now need to get a certificate installed which I cannot have a certificate with both virtual hosts without a wildcard (which we all know are pricy).   What am I doing wrong? Should the browser/serv-u switch to http: / https:  even if I type in ftp.domain.com?

Thanks.

Serv-U MFT OCSP stapling

Dear all Serv-U administrators, nice to meet you!

Due ISO 27002 / SOX  we need to have NIST Compliance my MFT server v15.1.6.31.. Im using Comodo SSL Certificate.

To try to have NIST compliance without activate the FIPS140 ..

I did disabled the SSLx/TLS1.0,

Regading TLS1.1 I only have checked ciphers AES128-SHA, ECDHE-RSA-AES128-SHA, AES256-SHA and ECDHE-RSA-AES256-SHA.

Regarding TLS1.2 all are checked

SSH Ciphers only AES192 and over.. (others disabled)

SSH MACs all SHA2 only checked (others disabled)

SSH Keys Exchange all checked

In some services to check the compliance of NIST cipher suites and server configurations (like htbridge.com, ssllabs.com..) always give a grade A or A+, but not have the full compliance due the server seems to be not implemented OCSP Stapling.

do I doing something wrong in the configuration of MFT Server?

Thanks and BR!

Domain "Settings" documented, but "Limits" are not described.

When I look for documentation on "Limits", the only documentation I can find lists the the limits by name but gives NO description of them.  "Settings", on the other hand, are described in pretty good detail in the administrator's guide.  Perhaps solarwinds expects that all users are network engineers/architects; fair enough, but some of us who are not would like this information provided to us.  Are "limit" descriptions (e.g., "Blocked anti-timeout schemes", "Require secure connection before login") documented anywhere?  As an aside, most of the links I've clicked on today looking for this information give a 404 error, so that is less than helpful as well.

If anyone knows where domain "Limits" are defined in any depth, please let me know.

Thanks.

Serv-U settings / limits.

My group is in the process of taking over the MFTP serv-u implementation and as we transition, there are a number of findings our Audit found.  A couple of them have to do with Password security.  I don't see any settings or limits to set to control Account lockout threshold, for example if a user types in the password wrong 4 times, the account get's locked.

FTP Voyager: How to accept an unknown host key

$

When I connect to a particular SFTP server with Filezilla, it informs me that the host key is known and do I want to accept trust the host (and store the key in the cache) and connect anyway? I accept and connect via SSH2 on port 22 successfully. Great.

With FTP Voyager using the same exact connection settings and credentials, I only get this:

STATUS> Negotiating SSH2 session with server...

STATUS> Client Identification: SSH-2.0-FTP Voyager_16.2.0.328

STATUS> Server Identification: SSH-2.0-OpenSSH_7.4

STATUS> Initializing key exchange process...

ERROR> The server has unexpectedly closed the connection.

What am I missing?

We have 15.1.6 and it has been running great for a few months now, but now all of a sudden it is not listening on the ftp, http/s port. But it sees and listens to the gateway just fine. Usually a restart is a good fix but thins time it does work. Nothing has changed on the servers or on our firewall. Anybody have any ideas?

Can Serv-U MFT server integrate with anti-virus softwares?

$

We plan to use Serv-U MFT server specifically for SFTP capabilities, so our clients/partners can send us files via SFTP. We would like any incoming files to be scanned by an anti-virus program before our application begins to process it.

While going through the product data sheet, I found the following statement:

"Completely implement your own security policy by integrating with existing antivirus, data loss protection (DLP) and disk encryption technology"

Could somebody throw some light on how we could integrate antivirus (we have symantec) so as to scan incoming files before application gets access to them.

Thanks,

ST.

Restrict User to one IP address/range

How do I restrict the IP a user connects from? I tried adding an IP range and deny all rule (*.*.*.*) in user properties > IP access but it's not working. I then tried removing the range leaving just the deny all and it still let me connect. What am I missing here?

Thanks

Does anyone know if this is possible?

Hello....

We are using Serv-U ftp software.

We recently made a change in the home directory (a NAS) for the people that need to access the ftp site.

Now whenever we try to log in, using FileZilla, get the following:

Status: TLS connection established.

Command: USER joel

Response: 331 User name okay, need password.

Command: PASS ********

Response: 550 /: Permission denied.

Error: Critical error: Could not connect to server

Have tried:

1. changing passwords

2. deleting user and re-adding

3. adding a new user

Same problem all around.

HELP!

Thx

Joel
